A SERVICE ACTIVITY WITH A DIFFERENCE – 1,00,000+ served
“There is no doubt that Social media has changed the world as we know it. We are more connected than ever before. Social media has even changed the way that we learn about and respond to issues affecting the world around us.“
President of Lions club Mangalore-Pandeshwar, District 317D Vinod Devasia, mjf, who is also the District IT Co-ordinator, wanted to demonstrate how we can use Social Media to raise awareness on various social issues.
For this he came up with an excellent short video, highlighting the importance of wearing a helmet.
In the video, we see a hammer strike a watermelon, with and without a helmet. As seen in the video, the watermelon is completely destroyed, when there is no helmet, while there is no damage to the watermelon when there is a helmet to protect it.
The video then shows a smiling man about to wear a helmet, with the message "Wear your helmet, protect your head".
The video was produced in association with Simha production and was released during the club’s installation on July 1st by PDG Kavitha Shastri.

The idea was well received, and within 2 weeks of release on Facebook, it has been viewed more than 1,00,000+ times and the number is still growing. This also translates to 1,00,000+ served with Traffic safety awareness using social media. Not only did it serve, but it also became an Image building exercise for the club, as the video generated more than 1790 likes, 355 shares, and many followers worldwide on the club page.

This is an eye opener to the very fact that change is imminent and we need to find new ways to serve and spread awareness.
